Volunteer Stories
Collinsville Faith in Action brings hope to those in need…
“I make friendly phone calls to some of our homebound clients and have built true friendships in this volunteer role. I call my Phone Friend at least every other week, and we share our experiences and update each other on what’s happening in our lives. I like to keep my Phone Friend current with what CFiA is offering because our needs continue to change as we age, and I want to make sure my friend knows of all the resources CFiA offers. My volunteering not only helps those in need, but it keeps me engaged with others, and I can volunteer on my schedule from my own home.”
Phone Friends Volunteer
“I have been a volunteer driver for nearly five years, and I’ve been rewarded with meeting some fantastic people who really appreciate my help. Some of the people I drive need help getting in and out of my car, but some require little to no assistance from me. We almost always have a good conversation and a few laughs when I’m giving them a ride. I set my own schedule and have so much support from the staff. This volunteer position makes me feel very needed, and I enjoy helping care receivers get to their important appointments.”

Care Receiver Stories
“I lived alone in an apartment and CFiA volunteers gave me rides to my medical appointments. Over time, some of my volunteer drivers became friends. They helped me get connected to a food delivery program for seniors, and even helped me tour different senior housing options when I needed to move. When it was time for me to move, some of my favorite volunteer drivers showed up to help me move my belongings. Their kindness is genuine.”

“I live in a supportive living apartment, and CFiA helps me get to my doctor appointments in St. Louis. Those volunteer drivers are just amazing people. I also like to come Elder Connection lunches. Last year, we painted on canvases and had game days. It was so fun and it felt so good to get out and meet new people. I appreciate CFiA and the volunteers who provide so much to those of us who really depend on them.”
